Where do family shoots happen?
Most Hackney families pick somewhere they already go. London Fields and Broadway Market on a Saturday morning, Victoria Park by the lake, Clissold Park, the Lea towpath at Hackney Marshes. Further out, the South Bank and Tower Bridge for families who want London in the frame. Say what your weekend looks like and Gráinne will suggest a spot and a time. Wear what you would wear to lunch with friends. Bring a snack.
How long does a family photoshoot take?
Ninety minutes. Long enough for toddlers to forget the camera, short enough that nobody melts down.
How many photos do we get, and when?
Fifty or more edited images in an online gallery within three weeks.
Why a shoot at home?
Small children behave like themselves at home, newborns feed and sleep on their own schedule, and winter shoots stay warm. One room with good window light is enough. Do not tidy for us. Hackney, Dalston, Clapton, Stoke Newington, Walthamstow, Islington and anywhere in London at no travel fee.
What time of day is best?
Morning, when the light is soft and children are fresh. Gráinne will ask which way your windows face.
Does our home need to be big or bright?
No. One room with a window is plenty, and Gráinne works with whatever light you have. If you would like some outdoor shots too, the session can finish in your nearest park.
Maternity and newborn
When should we book a newborn session?
While pregnant, with a rough date. The session happens in the first two to three weeks after birth, once you are home.
Do you use props or posed setups?
No. Everything is natural light and real.
Weddings
What happens on the day?
Gráinne meets you at the Town Hall before the ceremony, for the arrivals and the nerves. The ceremony is photographed quietly from the side. Then the steps and the confetti, and a few minutes on the marble stairs and in the atrium while the light is good. After that, a short walk to London Fields for portraits, or straight to the pub or restaurant you have booked. Gráinne knows the ones nearby that photograph well. A sneak peek arrives within 48 hours and the full gallery within three weeks.
When are ceremonies at Hackney Town Hall?
Ceremonies at the Town Hall run Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm, in the Lanchester Suite, up to 30 guests including the photographer. The packages are built around that.
Do you photograph weddings at Islington Town Hall or Stoke Newington Town Hall?
Yes, on the same packages and prices. Both are about 20 minutes from London Fields.
Where do we do portraits near Islington Town Hall?
Highbury Fields is five minutes' walk. For Stoke Newington Town Hall, Clissold Park is across the road.
What happens on the day at Islington Town Hall?
Gráinne meets you at the Town Hall on Upper Street before the ceremony, for the arrivals and the nerves. The ceremony is photographed quietly from the side, whichever room you have booked. Then the steps onto Upper Street, the confetti, and a few minutes on the staircase and in the entrance hall while the light is good. After that, a short walk for portraits: Islington Green and Camden Passage are two minutes away, Canonbury Square and Highbury Fields about ten. Or straight to the restaurant or pub you have booked. When are ceremonies at Islington Town Hall?
Islington Town Hall holds ceremonies through the week and at weekends, in the Council Chamber and its smaller rooms, so both packages apply. Room sizes and times are set by Islington Register Office.
Can you photograph inside the ceremony room?
Yes, quietly and from the side, without flash. The registrar sets the rules on the day and Gráinne works within them.
How many guests do the rooms hold?
The Council Chamber is the large room; the smaller rooms suit a handful of guests. Islington Register Office publishes the numbers and takes the room booking. The Ceremony package is built for smaller weddings; larger ones are quoted individually.
How long do you stay?
Two hours on the Ceremony package, which covers arrivals, the ceremony, the steps and portraits nearby. Three and a half hours on Ceremony and celebration, which follows you to the first hours of the reception. Extra hours are £150.
How soon do we get the photographs?
A sneak peek within 48 hours, the full gallery within three weeks, delivered online in high resolution.
Booking and prices
How do we book a family, newborn or home session?
Email your preferred dates and where you would like to shoot. A £100 deposit holds the date and the balance is paid on the day. Up to six people is included. Larger groups are quoted individually.
How do we book a wedding?
To secure your date a £100 deposit is required. The balance is paid the week of the wedding.
